The name “Snooker” has been referenced in the press on numerous occasions over the past two centuries. However, it is important to note that not all publications can be considered entirely reliable. In order to ensure the accuracy of our records, we have established a set of criteria for identifying “confirmed” articles and quotations. These include instances where the name “Snooker” is mentioned on two separate occasions within the same publication, or where it is duplicated across different newspapers. While we do not publish duplicates, we do retain all confirmed references in our archives. Furthermore, it is not always evident from the context whether the term “Snooker” is being used as a surname or a nickname.
