Charles Dawson

Charles Dawson (20 December 1866 – 16 July 1921) was an English billiards champion. He became the world professional billiards champion in 1899, 1900, 1901 and 1903. Snooker enthusiasts are aware that Dawson was the inaugural professional tournament winner. In 1908, however, the American Snooker Tournament was held not as an independent competition, but as additional entertainment after English billiards matches. The winner was determined by completely different rules than in modern snooker. Charles Dawson became famous for nothing else in snooker, remaining in memory as a legendary English billiards player.
