En passant, the Topicist has read of a British competition, in which the competitors were invited to make a list of the most beautiful words in the English language. To our surprise, none of the published lists contain the word “snooker.” There is no sweeten more graceful, more euphonious, more “toney,” more touched-with-tender-reminiscence word, which represents to the Topicist the most reliable of his gilt-edged securities.
