The Poets turn.
Westerham Herald, Saturday 12 December 1931
Following the loyal toast, the Chairman called upon Mr. Alfred Friend to read lines written by the local poet, Mr. Walter E. Lucock, in honour of the occasion.
Mr. Friend jokingly supposed the lines to have been mislaid, and said he had just commenced to create some new lines from the menu, when he found Mr. Lucock’s verses. He had got so far as:—
The Swaffer’s Own and Sunshine Cod,
And Apple pie by Snooker;
The Force Green sprouts and Hollybob crisp,
And printing done by Hooker.
