Radio Times Television Supplement, 9 April 1937
The origin of snooker somewhat obscure, but the introduction of the game is attributed to Captain Snooker (hence the name), who was an officer in the Bengal Lancers in India. He developed snooker from a game known as “pyramids” in which all the balls were red. Snooker, so the story goes, added the various colours and laid the of the game as we know it today. The first official snooker rules were drawn up in 1901.
