In much less than that time the redoubtable Jim Snooker, champion light-weight crib-cracker of that part of London, put in his appearance. But Jim’s nature had undergone a change. He had decided to be virtuous, and pick up an honest living on the racecourse. “Are you going to sell race-cards at Newmarket, Jim?” one of his friends suggested.
Jim Snooker sniffed. “Not likely-I’m goin’ to work ‘ard backin’ winners an’ follow the Turf.”
