On Monday, April 18, the Musical Play, “THE BELLE OF NEW YORK.” Mr. J. Bannister Howard’s company, presenting The Belle of New York, are delighting Dalston audiences this week with a most acceptable performance of the ever-popular musical play. Mr Frank Lawton is decidedly funny as Blinky Bill, keeping the audience in almost continuous laughter; Mr. Paddy Dupres is a success as Ichabod Bronson, rendering the songs peculiar to the part with an apparent relish. Mr. Harold Wardroper is an efficient Harry Bronson, becoming quite a favourite with the audience. Mr. J. R. Tate is the Polite Lunatic, and the audience follow his vagaries with keen, excitement; while they are also greatly amused with the funny antics of Mr. Lionel Yeoman and Mr. R. L. Cody as the twin Portuguese. Mr. Owen O’Brien acts realistically as Mr. Snooker, the reporter; Miss Dorothea Clarke impersonates the Salvation Army lass; and Miss Alice Nixon forms a contrast in the way of worldly vivacity as Fifi Fricot. …
