Snooker will permit of gossip
The Burwat billiards view. February 1930
Snooker is becoming increasingly popular in the family circle and one hears of Snooker parties, Jones v. Brown as it were, as a relief to the intensity of the bridge fever. The idea might be carried just a little further with a friends’ league with a simple trophy given for the winner’s possession for a twelve-month.
Snooker will permit of gossip. Bridge does not—at least one is led to believe so. One dreads to think of the Indian Colonel’s retort to your query about the character of his neighbour’s children, just after someone has doubled his “no trump” call.
