New Snooker Game
We have a new phase of snooker of which Willie Smith tells us. The departure is simple yet it gives promise of intensifying interest in a game that is becoming increasingly popular. We bring another ball in with this new idea, placing the spot white between the black and the pyramid, and the value of the new member for and against is 21. But this is not the only fresh idea. After potting a red the striker may as before sink any colour, and if successful may take another colour instead of being compelled to take another red before hitting another colour. Should the striker fail to sink this second colour he is charged with its value in points. The spot white is a colour for this purpose and the introduction of this additional factor should make the game a great deal more attractive than it is.
Most players will, of course, focus their endeavour upon the spot white and there will be a thrill or two in a keen, game in consequence. After the player has potted this second colour he is required to sink another red before again attempting a colour. Smith tried out the new idea in a game with Charlie Simpson at Sheffield and its success was complete.
