SIDE SHOWS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.
In addition to the show there was a number of side-shows. The Mountfield Brass Band, under Mr. J. Stevens, played during the afternoon and in the evening for dancing. There were country dances by the Mountfield Company of the Girl Guides, under the Captain (Miss Dengate) and the Lieutenant (Miss Harris). There was also a varied programme consisting of recitations by Eleanor Wicks and Phyllis Tester; and a play entitled “Armchair,” in which the characters were: armchair, Rene Jenner; Mrs. Modger, Eleanor Wicks; Miss Snooker, Madge Rummers; and Fairy, Heather Harris. Miss Dengate was the pianist. The proceeds of this entertainment on the lawn amounted to £1 6s. A “white elephant” stall was organised by Mrs. Dengate, assisted by members of the Women’s Institute.
