“Wild West Rodeo” and “Snooker”
Streatham News, Friday 03 February 1933
The annual dinner of the Streatham and District Motor-Cycle Club was a jolly function, and whoever was responsible for the menu card must be congratulated, for his sense of humour started everybody off in a good mood. The dinner is described as an “endurance trial of manly sports,” and the “general regulations” stated that “Machines should be parked outside. Full tool kit may be brought to the tables, but no feeding cups, force cups or haversacks allowed!” The seven courses were set out as “tests.” Soup was described as “Speed boat contest”-“Clear green versus tomato red. No splashing of opponents. Silencers to be fitted.” “Fishing” followed, and “Wild West Rodeo” and “Snooker” described two other courses. And so it went on. Instead of a toast list, they had “Exhibition diving.” The “divers” were the speakers. There was some fine fun during the evening, and the dinner was voted to be easily the best so far.
