Snooker was a puppy dog
South Bristol Free Press and Bedminster, Knowle & Brislington Record, Saturday 19 May 1923
Snooker was a puppy dog and lived in a big house,
But Snooker wasn’t very brave, and fled from rat and mouse;
So everyone at Snooker laughed, and Tom, the old grey cat,
Would steal his dinner, till poor Snooks grew thin as Tom grew fat.
His master said, “Be brave, old chap,” but Snooker said, “I can’t;
I really mean to kill them all like mother and my aunt;
But wait until a robber comes, you’ll see I’ll make him roar,
You bet your boots, he’ll turn and run and never come no more.”
Now, strange to say, what Snooker said just came to pass that night;
A burglar really came to steal and soon was put to flight,
For Snooker caught him by the leg and hung on fierce and tight,
Till Mr. Burglar cried for help and so was caught all right.
