A SNOOKER INCIDENT
Sheffield Independent, Wednesday 28 November 1923
In order to recompense the spectators the pair treated them to a game of snooker, and here Newman won by 81 to 57. The game was of an entertaining nature, for Davis with a forlorn hope of winning, set his opponent several snookers, much to the amusement of the spectators. Newman, however, negotiated these after missing the first, and then Davis quickly potted the remaining three colours, Newman jocularly remarking: “He’s got to meet his wife!”
