Why Snooker Has Become Popular
Sheffield Daily Telegraph, Thursday 25 April 1929
The sporting instinct is developed, and there are few other games in which self control is needed more than in billiards. If the temper is lost, it is utterly impossible to play the game properly, because concentration on the game is absolutely essential.
Snookers Pool has made rapid strides in popularity during recent years, and no doubt this is due to the game being easier than billiards. It has practically eliminated the none too desirable games of life pool, cork pool, and skittle pool, which is all to the good, for the last-mentioned were purely gambling games. They should not have been allowed on licensed premises.
Snookers Pool will become still more popular if the rules are made less complicated.
