Sale of Hunters

There was a large attendance at the sale of hunters held by Messrs. Warner, Sheppard, and Wade, at the Repository, Leicester, which included Lord Charles Bentinck, Lord Furness, Capt. Lord Somers, Lord Stalbridge, the Joint Master of the Fernie. Lieut.-Col. Sir Charles Lowther, the Joint Master of the Pytchley, and Major A. E. Burnaby, who hunts the Quorn with Mr. W. E. Paget. Mrs. Walter Faber, of Welford Grange, Rugby, obtained an aggregate of 1,800 guineas for five hunters that have been out regularly with the Pytchley and Fernie packs. Mr. R. L. Fenwick, of Little Belvoir, Melton Mowbray, realised 1,150 guineas for five, the best prices being paid for the nine-year-old Snowshoes (330 guineas); Snooker, a seven-year-old son of Succoth (300 guineas); and Charming, a five year old bay mare by Bachelor’s Charm (250 guineas). Colonel Walter Faber obtained 155 guineas apiece for the seven-year-old bay Manners, and the eight-year-old chestnut Aristocrat, both of which have been schooled and hunted by Captain Tom Hobbs, and were originally brought from Mr. Stokes.
