Cannot Sing
Dear Daddy,—This is my first letter, and I hope to join your Circle. I am eight years old. I have a cat and I call it “Snooker,” we had a dog called “Pat”— it was black and white. My cat is black, and it is a good mouse and bird catcher. I have a canary and a goldfinch, but they have not got a name yet. The canary is very old and can’t sing now.
I go to Brompton School and I am in Standard II. I go to school by bus. It is a very good school. I have three brothers, one is called Arthur, the others, Theodore and Llewellyn. Arthur has three fantails, two cock birds and one hen-bird. The young hen bird got killed by a cat.
Hoping to see my letter in print.—Your new member,
Ronald Hooper, Northallerton.
