No Hurry
Hull Daily Mail, Saturday 07 January 1933
Oh, well—sooner or later I shall think of something really snappy. There is no immediate urgency, as I have not the essential ten shillings in stock at the moment.
It may be argued—for some people will argue about anything—that this idea of changing one’s name just for fun is both impracticable and anti-social. To which I would reply, rather haughtily, that it is constantly being done by the best people. What happens to the young aristocrat who brings disgrace upon his family by palming the red at snooker or wearing odd spats at Ascot? Almost invariably he is given a remittance and despatched to one of the fuggier Colonies, with instructions to start life afresh under a new name, such as “Browne.”
Well, what is good enough for the best people is good enough for me. All I need, actually, is the remittance.
