Pastime with billiard balls called “Snooker”
Melbourne Punch, Thursday 9 May 1895
The Melbourne Military and Naval Club, an institution whose soldiers and sailors play the war game, and another weird pastime with billiard balls called “Snooker” has, it is whispered, through its ammunition being exhausted, been compelled to look for less roomy and comfortable quarters. Society hostesses hope that they may be supremely uncomfortable. In that case it might lead to a greater number of uniforms being seen at balls—other than billiard —and “at homes” for the future.
