Snookers and black pool
Madras Weekly Mail, Thursday 14 May 1891
There is a Club which is thought by the locals an unrivalled institution. Its rules are magnificent and are modelled mostly, when not copied exactly, from those of the justly famed Madras Club; they are frequently however more honoured in the breach than in the observance Snookers and black pool are industriously prosecuted, but as the accessories are two corrugated tables, with twisted cues and elliptical balls, chance has more to do with the result than skill.
