Mr. Clegg and Mr. Thomas declined to play whist. Mrs. Clegg had joined in the conversation. When we found we could not get whist we suggested that we should play snookers on the billiard-table. Both Mr. Clegg and Mr. Thomas declined that, whereupon Dr. Smith asked me to play a game of billiards with him.
