Grunski misses a great party

MENASHA – Races, food, beer, dancing, and just plain fun pretty well sums up the offerings of the Second Annual Otto Grunski Memorial Cup Amateur Bicycle Race and Polish Festival held this past weekend in Menasha’s Jefferson Park.
Despite the failure of the 513-year-old recluse inventor to make a showing, the event was, from all appearances, a smashing good time for all.

The Men’s 30 and over celebrity race was won by Appleton’s Alfred Gosha. Neenah Police Chief Vern Wollerman was second. Newton J. Snookers, America’s Beloved Tooth Fairy placed third. Other racers in the special category included State Senate Candidate Robert Torgerson, who entered the race clad in shorts, striped knee socks, goggles and a cape, which bore the words, “Otto’s for Torgerson.” Menasha Mayor Victor Wiecki, Chief of Police Roman Rappert, and Fire Chief Joseph Skalmoski were also entered.
