FOOTBALL. Gloucester v. Cheltenham College. —This match was played at Cheltenham on Saturday. Gloucester won a very fine and pleasant game by one goal and one try to one goal, the visitors having five touchdowns in their favour to two by the College. The College, in attempting to “pass,” lost ground frequently, which was only recovered by good drops into touch. The Gloucester backs played very well, but seemed to act too much on the defensive, rarely showing their pace, and appearing to lack confidence in themselves. The passing was, however, better than usual, but attempts were still made to tackle around the neck instead of the waist. Cheltenham College—L. E. Haines (captain), A. F. Sim, T. Cunningham, F. Martin, C. R. Carter, C. Sullivan, A. Viekerman, J. Soltan (forwards), W. Buck, B. Lane (half-backs), W. Parish, H. Osborne, R. Boyle (three-quarter backs), C. R. Brown, and C. E. Greenway (half-backs). Gloucester—J. F. Brown (captain), W. J. Bayley, J. F. Grimes, P. B. Cooke, W. Brown, H. Birks, A. F. Mann. H. Williams, W. Brimmell (forwards), W. A. Boughton, W. F. Evans, W. Snooker (half-backs), H. Buck, R. L. Grist (three-quarter backs), and H. J. Berry (back).
