Girl Snooker wondert on way to Championship
Daily Herald, Wednesday 23 March 1932
MARGARET QUINN, a 12-year-old Peckham, S.E., schoolgirl, may become British women’s snooker champion.
Margaret, last night, won her semi-final match with Miss E. Carmouche, a woman three times her age in the London section of the championship with the skill of a veteran.
With Miss Molly Hill, a probationer nurse, the other London semi-finalist, she qualified to meet the best players from the North. Midlands and Wales for the final at Burwat Hall, Soho-square. W., where last night’s match was played.
It was a critical audience that watched the girl wonder take shots which many a veteran has striven for years to achieve
This child, barely as tall as her cue went to the table with all the confidence of a Davis, scrutinised the position and played her shots with precision and polish.
“She’s a wonder.” said the experts— but Margaret carried on as though she was playing with her father, whom she beats with ease.
At first she was overwhelmed by her more experienced opponent, and lost the first game, but she won an easy victory in the second.
In the last game she ran out winner with a comfortable margin.
