Fred Snooker’s gang.
Daily Herald, Tuesday 21 September 1926
It was a standing joke in Fred. Snooker’s gang that old Bill Grimes was always slow on Mondays.
On every other day of the week Bill could compete favourably with the rest, and on some days he even excelled them. Bill was spasmodic. Bill was a man of moods.
One Monday Fred. Snooker was unusually bad-tempered. During the week end he had had a somewhat riotous time. About half-past four he was feeling very irritated with the thought that the public-house would not be open until six o’clock—one hour and thirty thirsty minutes!
