Mr. Barry Barnes as “Snooker”

EMPIRE MUSIC HALL.
“April Showers,” the musical comedy which is being presented at the Empire this week by Osborne Productions, had a splendid reception on Monday night. There is not a big cast of principals—only seven—but they are all artistes who have made a name for themselves in the revue world, and bring to the piece a distinct cleverness born of long experience.
Mr. Barry Barnes as “Snooker,” a man of many parts, and Mr. Teddy Williams as “Scooper,” set a merry pace early on, and they keep the ball rolling right to the end. Mr. Bert Castle plays well the role of “Capt. Jack Marsden,” and sings a number of the more popular songs in a pleasing style, for he has a voice of good quality and range. Miss Mary Gibbs makes a charming “Aprille Shower,” whilst Miss Joyce Lynn is captivating as “Mary Rose.” When women plot together something is going to happen, and when these two arranged to change places it was an omen of subsequent ructions. But they did not materialise as was anticipated; instead, after innumerable variations, there comes a particularly happy ending. Even “Snooker” finds a bride.
