The Handy Book of Games for Gentlemen
To this collected Edition of my Games, I need say little more than that I feel extremely flattered at the success achieved by each treatise in its separate form . Less than three years have gone by, since the first of my books appeared ; and now they are each and all accepted as authorities by gentleman players in clubs and country houses all over the queendom. Thus encouraged, I shall attempt to write my experiences on out – door sports-Angling, Cricket, Hunting, Coursing, Shooting, et cetera . The first volume I hope to have in the press early in the coming spring. Almost everything connected with gentlemen’s amusements will thus, I trust, be found in the two series of my published works.
There is yet something more to say. To those noblemen and gentlemen who have favoured me with information on the various Games contained in this book during its passage through the press , as well as to numerous correspondents who have, from time to time, aided me in my pleasant labours , I beg to return my sincere acknowledgments
