The Game of Billiards
This game (Billiards) is played on a rectangular table, with little ivory balls, which are driven into hazards, or holes, according to certain rules of the game. It was invented by the French, when it was played in a different manner from what it is at present, by having a pass or iron fixed on the table, through which the balls at particular periods of the game used to be played; but now this method is quite laid aside.
