The Encyclopaedia of sport and games
The first volume of The Encyclopaedia of Sport and Games, edited by Henry Charles Howard, Earl of Suffolk and Berkshire, and published in 1911, contains a substantial article on billiards and its principal forms. Beginning on page 271, the section was contributed by Maj.-Gen. A. W. Drayson and W. V. Vernon-Chapman.
It includes descriptions of the various games, their rules and variants, together with practical advice and explanatory diagrams. Snooker Pool is discussed alongside other forms of billiards, making the volume a useful, though comparatively little-known, source for the study of cue sports in the early twentieth century.
