Links with the Past

Being an illustrated account of the transactions relating to Billiard Tables, &c., between the ancient Inns and Hostelries of London & the House of Thurston.
At the end of the eighteenth century London had a very large number of old Inns, Taverns and Coffee Houses. The latter were used as Clubs and places where men famous in the Arts and Sciences formerly met for food and refreshment (not limited to coffee) and to debate the many matters in which they were interested. The former included a number of wellknown Taverns from which the Mail and Stage Coaches left on their long journeys to all parts of England, Scotland and Wales.
The book is part of the personal collection of Peter Ainsworth. The public section of the collection can be accessed via the following link: https://www.flipsnack.com/hylandbilliards/. We publish books and magazines in PDF format on our website with the owner’s permission.
