Snooker pool having advanced so rapidly in popular favour this season
Barnsley Chronicle, Saturday 11 January 1908
Snooker pool having advanced so rapidly in popular favour this season, amongst all classes of billiard players, some discussion has arisen as to its origin. Many people consider it quite a modern game, and that it would be a fairly easy matter to trace its origin, but others who remember the introduction of the game into this country have no certain knowledge where it was introduced from. Some people credit the Americans with originating the game, and others say it came from India. The latter suggestion is the most likely to be correct. The Americans have generally been associated with the cannon game on pocketless tables, while India, where billiards are very popular with the English residents, has shewn aspirations to originality in more than one class of sport.
